McCarver had a distinguished 21-year career in MLB, as he was a 2-time World Series champion with the Cardinals and 2-time All-Star, while finishing runner-up in the voting for the NL MVP in 1967. McCarver has the distinction of being one of just 31 players to appear in MLB games in 4 decades (1950s through 1980s). After retiring from playing, McCarver worked in sports broadcasting as a color commentator for several decades while winning 3 Emmy Awards for \"Sports Event Analyst.\"
