DESCRIPTION
An unusual 19th-century French Grand Tour silvered bronze pocket watch holder, modelled as a stylised classical horse\'s head and mounted upon an architectural Portoro marble pedestal.
The horse is boldly modelled with an elongated classical profile, pronounced mane and finely delineated hair, retaining areas of its original silvered surface. A curved hook projects from the mouth, designed for suspending a gentleman\'s pocket watch.
The bronze is raised upon a turned metal socle above a cylindrical column of richly figured black Portoro marble, displaying the characteristic contrasting golden-brown and pale veining of this prized Italian decorative stone, above a stepped black marble base.
