A superb and highly decorative 19th-century French colour lithograph after Gustave Doré (1832–1883), entitled:
“C’EST UNE GRAVE AFFAIRE !!!”
No. 13 from the series:
“MUSÉE DE MŒURS EN ACTIONS”
The composition depicts a wonderfully atmospheric woodland scene with a group of children gathered around a standing figure and his dog.
The work displays exceptional period detail and particularly attractive restrained colouring.
Importantly, the original printed inscriptions remain clearly visible.

The work was produced after a composition by the celebrated French artist and illustrator Gustave Doré, with the lithographic work credited to Régnier, Bettannier & Morlon and printing by the renowned Parisian firm Lemercier.
Published in Paris by Bulla Frères, 16 rue Tiquetonne.
The print is presented behind glass in a substantial dark carved / moulded wooden frame with repeating oval and rope-twist decoration.
The frame itself has wonderful period character and complements the lithograph beautifully.

CONDITION:
Good antique condition with genuine age-related character.
The print displays age-related toning, marks and minor imperfections consistent with its considerable age.
The frame displays expected historic wear, rubbing, scratches, small marks and losses to the finish.
The reverse retains an old paper backing and hanging wire. The backing paper has age-related wear, tears and deterioration, all clearly photographed.
The work has not been removed from the frame and is therefore sold as viewed and has not been examined outside its mount.
