Pale grey cloth covers with gilt decoration throughout including beautiful French looking scroll design on spine publisher\'s logo on back cover. Black heavily decorative illustrations on cover depicting country life.Gorgeous gilt metallic end papers front and back with elegant decorative design of the period.Each volume contains approximately 24 partial and 19 full page illustrations.Gilt top edge of pages.10 3/4\" tall, 7 1/2\" wide, 3 1/2 deep with both ( combined).Books are very well made with exceptional decorative appeal and very heavy due to the quality of the paper stock. Stunning books for display on a coffee table, and beautiful books displayed on a bookshelf with their soft, subtle shading lovely gilt embellishments on the spine. Very elegant -the colors remind me of the old Christian Dior grey and gold colors.The top of the spine titles reads: \"OEVRES CHOISIES De JEREMIAS GOTTHELF\", therefore I believe these were volumes from a set of selected works.

Condition: Some rubbing and wear along the edges and corners, and the tops and bottom of spines. Anne-Babi volume has extensive rubbing on back cover. Spines are secure. Pages are tanned.
