Memorabilia / certificate -- please read: The front caption reads EVENT-WORN, not game-worn, and I want that stated plainly rather than buried. The back says so too, quoted exactly as printed: \"The enclosed material was cut from Authentic Jerseys personally worn by Jeremy Maclin on 5/16 at the 2009 NFL PLAYERS Rookie Premiere. The authentic Event-Worn Jerseys were obtained and are guaranteed by Panini America, Inc.\" The Rookie Premiere is the photo-shoot weekend where the incoming draft class wears its new NFL uniforms for the first time, and the jerseys cut up for rookie cards like this one come from that event rather than from a game. There is no third-party grading and no separate certification number.
Appearance & swatch detail: The card is landscape rather than portrait. CERTIFIED POTENTIAL runs in large chrome capitals across a black band at the top, and EAGLES sits on a small tab below it. Maclin is cut out at the left in the Eagles\' midnight-green home jersey with the white number 18 and green helmet, running with the ball tucked under his right arm. The right two-thirds is a broad silver arc over a mirrored refractor background, and on this copy that background reads distinctly gold and bronze rather than the cool silver-blue I have seen on other cards from this insert -- worth noting if you are matching it against a checklist. A rectangular window in the middle of the arc holds the memorabilia: a rectangle of very dark midnight green jersey cloth in a fine ribbed knit, so dark it reads almost black until you catch it in the light. Worth knowing: Serial 074/100 verified against the card in hand. This is a rookie-year card from Maclin\'s first mainstream release, and he is the most accomplished player among the 2009 rookies I am listing this week -- two 1,000-yard seasons and a Pro Bowl is a real NFL career, not a prospect\'s.
Playing career: Maclin was the nineteenth overall pick of the 2009 draft out of Missouri, where he was a two-time consensus All-American and set the NCAA freshman record for all-purpose yards in a season with 2,776. He posted two 1,000-yard receiving seasons -- 1,318 yards in 2014 for Philadelphia and 1,088 in 2015 for Kansas City -- and was named to the Pro Bowl after the 2014 season. Across eight seasons with the Eagles, Chiefs and Ravens he caught 514 passes for 6,835 yards and 49 touchdowns.
