6 RARE 19th-CENTURY SILVER COINS – LOW-MINTAGE BETTER DATES – AU/VG For Sale

Here’s a really interesting group of six 19th-century silver coins that deserves to be kept together.

These are not large bullion pieces — most are approximately U.S. dime-sized — but that is exactly what makes this group so interesting. Each coin represents a different piece of European or colonial history, and each is a better-date, lower-mintage silver issue with surviving examples becoming increasingly difficult to find in attractive collectible condition.

Rather than buying these individually, this lot brings together six genuinely old silver coins from the 1830s through the 1860s, spanning Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, the Danish West Indies, Sweden, and France.

The group includes several examples in AU or near-AU condition, with excellent surviving detail, plus the 1866 France piece in approximately VG condition. Even the more circulated coin displays strong design detail for a tiny silver coin that is approximately 160 years old.

What really makes this group stand out is the combination of age, mintage, geography, and condition.

These coins were made to circulate. They were carried, spent, handled, worn, lost, and in many cases eventually removed from circulation or melted. After roughly 160–195 years, finding attractive survivors — particularly among the lower-mintage issues — is considerably more interesting than simply looking at the original production numbers.

And these are tiny coins. Most are around the size of a U.S. dime, meaning there simply wasn’t a tremendous amount of silver in each piece to begin with. Their value today is therefore primarily as collectible historical coinage, not as melt silver.
