7 Original Vintage Fougasse "Careless Talk Costs Lives" WWII Propaganda Posters For Sale

Set of seven Fougasse "CARELESS TALK COSTS LIVES" WWIIPropaganda / Morale Posters

This is a rare opportunity to own seven ORIGINAL Fougassewartime propaganda cartoon photolithograph prints from the 1940s. This set of prints was collected in Londonduring World War II and brought to the US as souvenirs. They have lain instorage since then and were only very recently rediscovered. These are legitimately museum pieces andshould be in a setting where they can be viewed by the public.

Fougasse, whose real name was Cyril Kenneth Bird, was awell-known cartoonist and editor of the magazine Punch when WWII broke out. Heconvinced the UK government to use humor for wartime propaganda and offered hisservices free. He believed the sharing of a joke enabled a poster to persuadewithout causing resentment by appearing to preach. Fougasse designed a seriesof eight posters for the Careless Talk Costs Lives campaign. They were producedin a variety of formats both for indoor and outdoor display, and proved sopopular that they were even reproduced on textiles.

Each print is 12.25" x 8" (31.5cm x 20.4cm).

The seven prints are currently enclosed in rigid clear PVCposter slipcovers. The slipcovers tend to impart abluish tint to the photos.

All seven prints have yellowed slightly over thedecades.Theyare all printed on ratherfragile, thin paper stock. They all have some slight wrinkling in places.
