By 1972 horsepower for the LS5 455 HO was rated by SAE Net instead of Gross to make the insurance companies believe it was slower. But the car was still a brute. And the engine made big power in a lighter body compared to the Trans Am. So, the performance was impressive!Still, the Firebird almost met its end in 1972. A United Auto Workers strike affected the only plant manufacturing Firebirds. And the 174 day strike cut production by 50%. In the end, only 276 Firebird Formula 455s in Sundance Orange came off the line.
