**This vintage composition girl doll features a classic white and red sailor outfit with brown (claimed to be) real human curly hair, standing at 23 inches tall.
**With a stuffed body, the arms, legs, and head are solid composition. (See photos for condition). The outfit, lace edged socks, and shoes are original. The hair ribbons have been replaced.
**THE STORY GOES: Supposedly, the original owner of the doll, an elderly woman named OLIVE, received it as a gift in the 1940s, after her older sister fell out of a tree and died. Her parents had the doll custom-made to resemble the sister, and the girl named it IVY after her sister.
Olive claimed the doll talked to her and they shared secrets. She was never afraid of the doll, saying it was a benevolent “friend” to her. Her parents never heard the doll talk, but they didn’t contradict Olive, because it seemed to console her after the death of her sister.
I purchased the doll at an estate sale after the woman passed away, where her cousin, who was sponsoring the sale, relayed the story to me.
