Offered is a beautiful, rare example of a British Officer's gorget from the estate of a noted artist and collector.A now rare type of military relic, which would have been worn by British officers in the early 1800's.Traces of beautiful gold gilt remain and it is hand engraved with "GR" cipher for Georges Rex, King George III and flanked by olive branches. Turned rim and wonderful antique patina on reverse. Worn by line officers during the campaigns in America and the Napoleonic War / Waterloo era. This gorget measures 3" wide by 4.5" long, with a 1.5" space between the 2 arms. Some of the gold gilding is still intact, creating a pleasing appearance. The engraved design is clear and attractive. These gorgets were issued in silver and "gold" (that is, gilt brass), and this is an example of the latter. Feel free to ask questions, and enjoy!
