This compact late-19th-century dictionary contains approximately 32,000 words and nearly 700 engravings and was revised and abridged from Webster’s Dictionary of the English Language.
The copyright page is clearly marked “Copyright 1895, by A. L. Burt.”
Beautiful original red cloth hardcover with black Art Nouveau/Victorian-style typography and decorative detailing to the front cover and spine. The interior features densely printed dictionary entries accompanied by numerous small engraved illustrations throughout.
The front endpaper contains a period handwritten owner’s inscription/address from a previous owner in Warren, Ohio, adding an interesting piece of the book’s history.

Condition: Antique pre-owned condition with expected age-related wear. The red cloth binding shows rubbing, fading, spots/marks and wear along the edges, corners and spine ends. There is a handwritten former owner’s inscription on the front endpaper. Interior pages show normal age toning and occasional marks consistent with a book more than 125 years old. Please review all photographs closely for condition.
