ConditionThis is a general disclosure to accommodate any imperfection the pictures can not capture: Very good, original condition. This item is over 100 years old so please expect some nicks/scratches, patina/haze, dings, stone pitting, scuffs, tarnish, or imperfections commensurate with age. Additional notes: minor stone edge nicks on both sides..
Gemstone hazing notes: Carnelian and Bloodstone gemstones are a cryptocrystalline quartz and their surface undergoes changes when exposed to constant handling, skin oil (from wearing and touching), rubbing against clothing, etc., over centuries. Ancient debris also collects in the crevices between the setting and the gemstone. This can turn the microscopic scratches and debris buildup from a glossy polish into a dull haze.
- The only way to remove a true patina/haze is to have a professional jeweler gently clean, buff and polish the surface on a wheel to restore the gemstone brilliance.
- Many collectors leave this haze intact, as it serves as physical proof of Victorian authenticity. We do not professionally clean items.
