An attractive early 18th century Chinese porcelain plate, potted with a moulded ribbed border and later decorated in Holland in the fashionable Japanese Kakiemon taste.
The plate is painted in delicate famille verte-style enamels with flowering plants, foliage and two birds in flight, surrounded by further floral sprays and stylised rockwork around the rim (three friends of winter pattern). The restrained palette of iron-red, turquoise-blue, green and black is characteristic of the Dutch taste for Japanese-inspired decoration during the early 18th century.
Chinese porcelain imported into the Netherlands was sometimes enhanced or entirely redecorated by Dutch enamel painters to suit contemporary European fashions. These pieces are generally referred to as Amsterdam Bont. Kakiemon designs, with their asymmetrical arrangements of birds, flowers and flowering branches, were particularly admired and frequently adapted by Dutch decorators during the 1720s and 1730s.

Condition: The plate has been broken across and restored. The repaired break remains visible on inspection. Another section of 2 pieces repaired. Short hairline. There is also some expected rim wear and fritting consistent with age. Larges chips to the foot. Restored chips and touchups to the frits. Wear to the enamel and surface.
