Antique 1906–1908 USDA Fruit Botanical Prints – Set of 4
Beautiful set of four original early 20th-century fruit illustration plates from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Yearbook, dating from 1906 and 1908.
These are original period printed plates removed from USDA Yearbooks and are not modern reproductions. Each features a wonderfully detailed color botanical illustration showing both the exterior and interior anatomy of historic fruit varieties.
Set includes:
- Magnate Apple – Plate XXV, 1906 – illustrated by D.G. Passmore
- Patten Apple – Plate XLI, 1908 – illustrated by D.G. Passmore
- Augbert Peach – Plate XLIV, 1908 – illustrated by Elsie E. Lower
- Savage Citrange, Natural Size – Plate XVIII, 1908 – illustrated by E.I. Schutt
Several plates bear the period printer\'s mark A. Hoen & Co., Baltimore. The artists\' signatures visible on the plates are reproduced as part of the original printed illustrations and are not hand-signed.
Approximate size: 5.5\" wide × 9\" tall each.
These plates are now approximately 118–120 years old and retain beautiful color and detail. They would look excellent individually framed or displayed together as a coordinated set.
Condition: Antique pre-owned condition with expected age-related toning, occasional spotting/marks and wear. Some plates have rough or uneven edges along the binding side from removal from their original bound volumes. Please examine all photographs closely, as they show the actual items and are considered part of the condition description.
Wonderful examples of early American agricultural and botanical illustration and an attractive set for collectors of antique botanical prints, USDA ephemera, pomology, horticultural history, apples and fruit-related artwork.
All four original period plates are included and will be sold together as one set.
