Here we have a fantastic piece; an antique Aboriginal throwing stick, the Woomera, made in the late 19th or early 20th century. Made from mulga wood, having a plant based wrapping, which is then coved with the classic Spinifex resin wax to secure the joint and build up the handle end, (alas much of that hand grip end has resin lose). The Woomera is 31" long, (79 cm), and 3 1/4" (8 cm) deep, and less than 1/2", (1 cm), wide. I picked this up at a market many years ago just outside of Chicago. Originally this was brought here to the US by a returning Marine at the end of WWII. A beautiful piece, with tons of history associated with it. See photos for all the details.
