Offered here is a genuine antique Chinese hand-embroidered silk panel, dating to the late Qing Dynasty (circa 1850–1890). The piece depicts delicate floral sprays accented by a butterfly motif, symbolizing harmony and joy, rendered in restrained blue-gray tones with subtle red highlights on a naturally aged silk ground.
The embroidery is presented in a long, narrow panel format traditionally used as a table or altar mat, later mounted for Western display in a period-appropriate Chinese silk brocade surround featuring roundel motifs. This style of mounting is consistent with 20th-century Hong Kong dealer presentation and is commonly seen on authenticated export antiques.
Authentication
This embroidery is accompanied by an original Hong Kong Art Craft Merchants Association Limited – Certificate of Antiquity, dated October 27, 1980, certifying the work as over 100 years old at the time of examination. The certificate includes a photograph of the actual item and bears official seals and signatures.
