Antique Framed French Fashion Plate “Les Modes Parisiennes Peterson’s Magazine, For Sale

This is a lovely antique -framed fashion plate from the famous Peterson’s Magazine. The heading at the bottom reads “Les Modes Parisiennes Peterson Magazine July 1866.” These hand-colored plates were issued every few days in the mid-19th century and showed the very latest Parisian styles to an international audience. The scene features four elegant women in elaborate gowns. Overall framed size is approximately 15 3/4 inches tall by 14 inches wide. The wooden frame has a black finish and gold edging with attractive age-appropriate wear — some black paint has chipped, which gives it nice character. The print is under glass and ready to hang. The back is leather like and a hanging wire already attached. It was framed by Marshall Field & Co. This piece displays beautifully and would look wonderful in a Victorian, French country, cottage, or eclectic setting. It’s a genuine 19th-century fashion plate, not a modern reproduction. Condition is good for its age. The print retains nice color and detail. The frame shows normal wear and minor chips consistent with 150+ years. The print shows creases where it had at one time been folded. Also a few small ripples at the bottom. A charming piece of fashion history and decorative art, perfect for a bedroom, dressing room, hallway, or gallery wall. Carefully packed and shipped with tracking.
