Antique French Confit Pot 19th Century, Yellow Glaze with Green drips, H17cm:
$194.23

A beautiful small yellow glazed French confit pot with green drips, also known as pot à confit, is a traditional half glazed ceramic pot that was primarily used in the southwest of France. With a weathered patina, this pot measures approx. 17cm tall and 20cm wide (handle to handle).
These pots were used before the invention of refrigeration to preserve meats cooked in fat, a technique known as confit, and half buried in the ground. Hand made, the glazing process created the characterful markings / drips with a yellow glazewith variation in tone.
The upper part coated with a yellow (or honey-colored) glaze, which helped seal and protect against moisture. The bottom part unglazed, as it was often in contact with earth or damp surfaces during storage.
This pot is an old one and has markings and patina in keeping with its age and use, including rim and heavy body chips and wear, as pictured. A lovely addition to any home.
