Angel with Clasped Hands
Original antique French miniature in watercolor and gouache, a winged angel with clasped hands, French School, early 19th century, early 1800s, in a gilt wood frame with beaded borders.
French School: the painter is not identified, the place and period are what the picture itself tells us.
A winged child sits against a dark wood, hands clasped under the chin. Auburn curls are held back by a gold band, the cheeks are pink, and the eyes turn toward us with a small, shy look. A red cloth slips from the shoulder and gathers at the waist. Every hair and every feather is drawn with the point of a very fine brush, in a picture no bigger than a playing card.
