Antique Fulper Pottery #643 Blue Crystalline Double Handle Vase Arts Crafts For Sale

Antique Fulper Pottery double-handled art pottery vase, produced in Flemington, New Jersey during the early 20th century.

This is Fulper’s Shoulder and Handled Vase, shape #643, featuring a rounded swollen body, cylindrical neck and a pair of handles extending from the shoulders to the upper rim.

The vase is covered in a blue crystalline glaze, displaying dense feathery blue crystal formations over a lighter blue ground. The neck and handles transition to deeper blue-green tones, creating variation throughout the glaze.

The underside bears the impressed/incised FULPER racetrack/oval mark, confirming its manufacture by Fulper Pottery.

Fulper was one of the important American Arts & Crafts art potteries, and its experimental crystalline glazes are among the company’s most distinctive achievements. The Metropolitan Museum of Art notes that Fulper’s crystalline glazes were particularly difficult to achieve because of the precise kiln control required to form the crystal patterns.

Based on the form and impressed Fulper mark, this dates to approximately the 1916–1922.

Measuring appr 7 1/2” tall × 6 1/4” across the handles.

Very good antique condition overall.

The underside shows expected age-related shelf wear, scuffing and discoloration to the unglazed foot ring, along with typical factory glaze skips, runs and irregularities associated with the production and glazing process.

The recessed underside retains the clearly impressed FULPER mark.

There are no chips, cracks or repairs. As with handmade antique art pottery, there are natural variations and irregularities in the glaze and manufacture.
