Antique Hand-Painted Napoleon Miniature Portrait on Bone c.1900, Germany Frame For Sale

Up for sale is a beautiful, highly detailed antique portrait miniature depicting Napoleon Bonaparte in his iconic green military dress uniform with imperial decorations.

The piece is hand-signed "Gérard" on the right side of the portrait, executed in the style of the famous state portraits by Baron François Gérard.

Artwork Medium: This piece is 100% hand-painted on a genuine, natural bone wafer. Under magnification, individual hand-layered brushstrokes and textured white and colored highlights are highly visible. There is absolutely no print transfer or dot-matrix pattern. The natural diagonal grain of the bone wafer can be seen beautifully in the background.

The Frame: The portrait is housed in its original, heavy turn-of-the-century French Empire-style gilt metal frame featuring an inner decorative oval bezel and a ribbon/bow crest topper. The backing plate features a textured brush pattern and is stamped "German" / "Germany", dating its production to the post-1890 American export era.

Portrait: The hand-painted miniature painting itself is in excellent antique condition with vibrant colors, sharp details, and no cracking, fading, or damage to the bone wafer.

Frame Structure: The frame shows a slight physical condition point. The outer metal frame border on the left side is slightly warped/bent outward. As seen in the side-profile photos, the multi-layered frame elements (the outer frame, green insert panel, and raised brass oval bezel) remain secure and structurally sound, showing a wonderful authentic aged patina on the metal work.
