One antique pair of farrier hoof nippers, maker-stamped J.H. Bushnell Mfg. Co. Long reins, heavy curved end-cutting jaws, and a single riveted pivot. The tool a horseshoer used to nip the hoof wall before rasping and nailing a shoe.
MAKER
Stamp on the handle reads J.H. Bushnell Mfg. Co. Vaughan & Bushnell Manufacturing Company was incorporated in Chicago in 1882, after Alexander Vaughan’s blacksmith shop partnered with Sidney Bushnell. The firm made hammers, wrecking bars, pincers, nippers, and other hand tools. Bushnell family interest was bought out in 1922. Sold as a marked American farrier/blacksmith tool of that era. No battlefield, regiment, or farm provenance is claimed.
TOOL DETAILS
End-cutting jaws with the classic rounded farrier profile. Handles are long for leverage. Pivot is a peened rivet. Surface is dark iron with bright rub on the edges, light pitting, and shop wear. Stamp is worn but readable in the photos.
CONDITION
