Antique MAJOLICA Pitcher ROOSTER Magnificent Details OPEN BEAK 12\" Hand Glazed

Size12\" high, 8\" long when measuring handle to beak. Top opening at back of head is oval and 2\". 4.5\" wide from side to side.

A wonderful pitcher, whimsical & very unique. These are very rare to find, especially in such magnificent condition.

Features a fabulous crowing rooster with meticulous detailing and hand applied majolica glaze. Color of body is a rich/warm brownish ochre with a red comb and black tailfeathers. He\'s standing amongst green grass.

Gorgeous coloration, rich and deep Majolica style. White interior with a white belly.

Heavy, weighted base makes him very stable

Nice small details, such as the swoop and lines of the feathers, his very realistic eyes, and even little toenails.

This glaze is watertight, so the pitcher could be used as a beautiful tabletop vase or a drinks pitcher.

With a large and exaggerated solid handle

Marked on base with an impressed number of 517/ antique pitchers such as this had variable marks, especially on early pitchers produced in the late 1800s & early 1900s.

My educated opinion is that he is French, due to the extra special care and high quality of his design

Excellent antique condition- he has an extremely flat TINY flake off of the right edge side of his beak which is almost invisible unless he is turned over. This flake is not bright white and does NOT cut into his beak or change the shape of his beak- see the last 2 photos and use zoom. VERY MINOR. There is very faint/light crazing throughout the glaze over the entire piece as to be expected for age. The crazing has not darkened or \'foxed\' and there are no darkened or yellowed areas. No other nicks chips cracks scratches damage or repair. No fading to glaze, no dullness to surface.

This is a stunning piece- great for a collector
