A Victorian era Majolica butter pat. During the Nineteenth Century tiny ceramic butter pat plates were set at the place setting of each guest to hold an individual serving of butter. A charming, and, yes, a bit fussy custom which has passed into history. The beautiful little butter pat plates, however, are SO collectible. They may be hung on the wall to vary the sizes of a plate collection, or they may be grouped with a tabletop collection. This one is a perfect little masterpiece, displaying a deep green star-like design in the center of a field of varying green and creamy white tones. The rim of this three-inch pat is scalloped. The reverse shows a mottled design. We suspect its place of origin is England. From the estate of an interior designer who treasured her every piece of Majolica.
