Wonderful collection of 19 antique Victorian sewing, crochet, lace-making and needlework tools, including numerous hand-worked bone implements along with early metal and steel pieces.
The collection includes crochet hooks, bodkin-style tools, stilettos or punch-type implements, fine steel hooks and needles, and other specialized tools associated with traditional hand sewing, crochet and lacework.
One of the most interesting pieces is an ornate metal-handled needlework tool clearly marked “PAT. SEPT. 3, 1867.” The decorative handle features an elaborate Victorian design. The metal has not been tested for silver content, so no claim of sterling silver is being made.
Several of the pale implements appear to be hand-worked bone and display the natural color, texture and surface variation expected from antique organic material.
This is a particularly interesting assortment because of the variety of shapes, sizes and construction techniques represented. Some pieces are simple working tools, while others are considerably more decorative.
