Antique Victorian Vulcanite Cross Necklace 20\" Chain c.1870-1890
A striking Victorian vulcanite cross necklace dating to approximately 1870-1890, featuring a substantial molded cross suspended from a chunky interlocking vulcanite chain.
The cross has a beautifully simple architectural form with subtly tapered upper arms and a softly matte surface. The vulcanite has naturally oxidized over time from its original black to the warm brownish tone characteristic of genuine 19th-century vulcanized rubber jewelry.
The necklace is completed by its period hook clasp and retains the wonderful sculptural quality associated with Victorian vulcanite jewelry. The cross is attached to the chain with a metal open jump ring.

Condition:
