This frame alone is valuable, even if you do not desire the historic estate photo. Hand made , hand forged nailed frame.. true Americana.
This is an estate find. The traditional wicker chair was common in the Victorian & Edwardian eras. The color processing changed in time. The photo does have the added color. The German doll shown date the time. The exact date us unknown but the estate piece was from a lady born in approximately 1909 -1910 . The address on the photo was the photographer that moved in 1922.. so it was definitely prior to 1922.. this and Along with the extreme thickness of the photo paper, which almost feels like cardboard has helped us date it.. the hand forged nails also are from the time period. See the photo where I opened the frame. Trying to identify the subject or find a date.. That is where I found the studio name which was dated to Kaufman which was in Richmond, Virginia and then I did a history search on all of that. I did indeed find the address. I have lots more photos of my research. It is a young girl baby and a white christening gown and this estate was near the Richmond Virginia area. The photos were very expensive in the days. The frame is handmade, very layered and thick and is nailed together. I removed One nail trying to ID the picture and perhaps make contact with family or heirs to the estate. There is a photograph of that nail. It also dates earlier than we anticipated. The photo was initially deceptive but the paper and that square wooden handmade frame shows someone more of middle class that was able to afford the photo but had a handmade frame built which is prior to those expensive rounded beveled bubble glass mirrors.
