Antique French Passementerie Tassel Tieback, SingleA single hand-worked passementerie tassel tieback on a two-colour twisted cord, in deep crimson and warm ecru-gold.The tassel head is built from stacked wrapped and ribbed ornamental balls above a full twisted-thread fringe skirt, in the tradition of 19th century French drapery trim. A wound slide bead sits where the cord loops back on itself near the top, allowing the loop to be adjusted or gathered. Material appears to be silk and/or cotton thread over a core.
Tassel: approximately 10" (25.4cm) long overall, with a fringe/skirt length of approximately 6" (15.2cm), leaving roughly 4" (10cm) for the wrapped head above it.
Cord: approximately the same length range as the tassel itself, roughly 10" (25.4cm) of visible twisted cord above the tassel head, gathered through a wound slide bead.Style and construction are consistent with 19th century French passementerie work and were indeed sourced from a french châteauCondition: fraying and loose fibers are visible along sections of the twisted cord, with associated color softening throughout, consistent with genuine age and handling. Overall structure of the tassel and cord is intact, with no separation at the tassel head. Sold as found, no restoration or cleaning carried out.
