Antique circa 1904 No. 2 Spirited Horses Wood Framed Print 20\" x 17\"(sometimes referred to as \"The Alarm\")A little bit of history found online that I assume is accurate:Antique print produced by Joseph Hoover and Son’s out of Philadelphia titled “Spirited Horses No 2.” (sometimes simply called \"Spirited Horses\" or referenced as \"The Alarm\"). The artwork was created by French artist Henri LeRoy(often documented alongside Anita LeRoy).It features a black horse in the foreground and a white horse just behind him in a field, with both horses being taken aback by an approaching storm.As regards the history of this artwork, there were at least two versions of “Spirited Horses” No. 2 put out by Jos Hoover and Sons (more if you count many size variations). The first print was produced in 1904 and was titled “No 2. Spirited Horses”, which is the same artwork but the horses are facing to the left. And then the other which is the same artwork but the horses are facing to the right.Another interesting fact; this famous print is used commonly in many Hollywood scenes for décor, such as: A Christmas Story (hung in the dining room shown in the famous \"Fragile\" and \"Turkey\" scenes, The Outsiders, and Little House on the Prairie among others. Joseph Hoover started by making elaborate wood frames in Philadelphia in 1856, but within a decade or so he began to produce popular prints. Initially he mostly worked for other publishers, including Duval & Hunter, and he worked with noted Philadelphia artist James F. Queen. He also issued a few hand-colored, popular prints of considerable charm. Later he produced decorative prints in black & white and then began to work in chromolithography, winning a medal for excellence during the Centennial for his chromolithographs after Queen’s renderings. This was just the beginning of Hoovers work in chromolithography and he became one of the few native Americans who achieved success with this process. By 1885, Hoover installed a complete printing plant for chromolithography. By the end of the century, his firm was one of the largest print publishers in the county, with an average annual production of between 600,000 to 700,000 pictures.
Vintage/Antique Lithograph Prints: If this is an early 20th-century offset lithograph or chromolithograph issued by historic distributors (like Jos. Hoover & Sons or the Wilson Chemical Co.), it typically sells at estate sales or antique shops for $150 to $300 depending on the quality and age of the frame. Highly preserved, premium retail gallery copies can occasionally fetch up to $600+.

• Weighs 3lb 5oz
• Overall nice condition for age, view all photos for what is listed below
• Looking very close the \"Spirited Horses\" on lower left is slightly cut off by frame, unsure if it is all still there under frame or not as it may have been trimmed to fit frame
• I also took photos of bottom right as it almost looks like some faint print, but I couldn\'t make it out
• Pen points to what looks like a few teeny pieces under glass, not real noticeable even up close
• Along top edge in cloud area, there is what looks like a faint water (?) stain and blends into the cloud so almost looks like it was made that way other than slightly brown tint
• Old wood frame is overall in nice shape
• Backer cardboard is old and alittle torn in a corner and wire alittle twisty
• All were taken with a flash except the last photo which is why it looks brownish
