Offered is an unusual mid-19th-century American Round Gothic, or “beehive,” shelf clock dating to approximately the 1850s–1860s.
The clock features a mahogany-veneered wooden case, painted metal Roman numeral dial, decorative hands, visible center alarm-setting disc and a reverse-painted lower glass tablet depicting the White House and surrounding street scene.
The clock runs well and strikes the corresponding number of times on each hour. It is an hour-strike-only clock and does not strike on the half hour. It also includes a separate alarm mechanism operated through the numbered disc in the center of the dial.
This clock is believed to be associated with Jerome & Co. of New Haven, Connecticut. It was acquired together with two other period clocks bearing Jerome identification; however, no readable Jerome label has been located on this particular example. It is therefore being offered as an unattributed American clock rather than with a guaranteed maker attribution.

The clock is in unrestored antique condition. The case has finish wear, scratches, marks, small veneer losses and age separation in areas. The wooden dial surround has visible joint separation. The dial has paint loss, especially around the center opening and winding arbors. The White House tablet has scattered paint loss and surface wear but remains attractive and highly decorative. The interior is dusty, and the dark finish on the backboard has extensive flaking and loss.
Although the clock operated well during testing, antique mechanical clocks can require leveling, adjustment or professional servicing after transportation. Long-term accuracy has not been guaranteed.
