Item: FrenchLine Baggage Tag from the S.S Ile De France.Launched in 1927, this famous steamship was in passenger service until 1940 when it was converted to a troop ship. After the fall of France in WW II it was seized by British forces in Singapore and served as a Free French transport throughout the war. It temporarily resumed passenger service in 1946 and was completely reconditioned in 1947-49 and then began passenger service again until 1958.Note of interest: I am selling my collection and bought this French Line tag many years ago. The seller sent a note with it and I have attached a photo of part of it. It reads: \"Baggage Tag - Belonged to my Aunt - It was an extra - She traveled from Cherbourg to South Hampton to NYC in February 1950 on the S.S. \"Ile De France\".Return was via the \"Queen Elizabeth\" in March also\".
