This book is a collection from November and December, 1970, of a Statement by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, another by the Government and Communist Party of China, and Four Editorials and Commentaries in the official newspaper, "People's Daily," all in strong support of the Vietnamese fight against the U.S. attacks and occupation, and in support of the Vietnamese Worker's Party, the North Vietnamese government, and the National Front For Liberation in the South.
What's particularly interesting in this collection is that the book was printed and distributed in early 1971, and the statements and commentaries are highly critical of the U.S. and then-President Nixion.
However, by the end of that same year, "Ping Pong Diplomacy" already had occurred and negotiations had been finalized for Nixon's visit to China within a few weeks, in February, 1972.
Nixon during that period pursued "Vietnamization" of the Vietnam War, replacing American soldiers with South Vietnamese soldiers, a strategy which lowered U.S. casualties, but which ultimitly insured the U.S. would lose the war. Three years later, April, 1975, came the final victory for the NFL and defeat for the American strategy in Vietnam.
This book is a reflection of the final stages of the 20+ years long hostility and lack of diplomatic and economic relations between the U.S. Government and China, 1949-early 1970's. As such, it is an important and interesting book.
