A: NO. Tap water contains dissolved minerals and chlorine that will poison your plant. The clean water rule is mandatory: always use Distilled, Reverse Osmosis (RO), or Rainwater.
Q: Should I add fertilizer?
A: NO. Carnivorous plants evolved to grow in poor soil and get their nitrogen from eating bugs. Adding standard fertilizer to the roots will cause severe nutrient burn and kill them.
Q: Do I need drainage holes?
A: Yes. While these plants love wet soil, completely stagnant water can cause fungus. Drainage holes let you use the tray method properly and flush the soil when needed.
Q: Do I have to feed my plant bugs?
A: Only if it lives indoors. Outdoor plants catch plenty on their own. Indoors, offer one dried insect to a single trap every few weeks during the growing season. Never feed meat scraps, and never feed a dormant plant.
