Antique Handcrafted Victorian Eastlake Style Walnut & Burl Wall Mirror with Gilt Incised DecorationStriking antique wall mirror with elaborate late-Victorian / Eastlake-inspired decoration, highly figured burl wood, carved and applied crestwork, and extensive incised ornament highlighted with gold-colored detailing.The mirror has an unusually decorative architectural form, including an arched upper opening, carved scrolls, stylized floral and geometric motifs, figured wood panels, and a prominent central crest.The decorative work continues around the frame rather than being limited to the top, including incised and gilt motifs at the upper and lower corners.ProvenanceThis mirror was purchased directly from an approximately 90-year-old gentleman who told the purchaser that his grandfather made the mirror.The grandfather’s name, workshop and exact date of manufacture are currently unknown. This family history is therefore being presented as oral provenance as received from the previous owner and has not been independently documented.Based on its construction, materials and Victorian/Eastlake-influenced design, we believe the mirror dates from approximately the late 19th to early 20th century, circa 1890–1920.Construction & Details* Walnut or similar dark hardwood construction

* No maker’s label or signature has been locatedThe reverse shows substantial period-style wood construction with multiple wide backing boards. The currently attached hanging wire appears to be a later practical addition.ConditionThe mirror remains attractive and substantially intact, especially considering its age.There is normal antique wear including surface scratches, minor dents and marks, finish variation, wood checking and small separations associated with age and natural wood movement.The figured burl areas show some age-related checking and separation. The mirror glass exhibits some spotting, haze and other signs of age.The ornate upper crest and applied decorative elements appear substantially intact.The diagonal joints visible near the upper decorative corners appear on both sides and are associated with the construction of the frame rather than appearing to be an isolated recent break.This piece has not been restored or refinished by us.Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and show the antique condition better than words alone can convey.
