Originally published in 2023, WHALEFALL is a tense survival novel following Jay Gardiner, a teenage diver searching off the California coast for his late father’s remains. After being swallowed by a sperm whale, Jay is trapped with a dwindling supply of oxygen and must find a way out while confronting memories of his complicated relationship with his father. The novel combines survival thriller, marine science, family conflict, and grief in an unusually claustrophobic setting.
