English Fairy Tales brings together traditional tales from across England, retold by Flora Annie Steel in lively, literary prose and memorably illustrated by Arthur Rackham. Rackham’s sixteen full-color plates and forty-two black-and-white drawings give the volume its distinctive early-20th-century fairy-book character: eerie woods, looming giants, mischievous goblins, and richly imagined rural settings. First published in 1918, this edition remains a handsome example of one of the classic collaborations between a major illustrator of the Golden Age of book illustration and a gifted collector and re-teller of traditional stories.
