She is portrayed half-length, wearing an elegant black Empire dress with a high waist andsquare neckline edged with delicate lace. Particularly remarkable is the extremely finerendering of the transparent black sleeves: the artist has delicately suggested the sitter\'sskin beneath the sheer fabric while retaining the tiny embroidered motifs and lace borders.This refined treatment of transparency demonstrates the accomplished technique of theminiaturist.
Her fashionable hairstyle, with the hair gathered high at the back and carefully arrangedcurls over the forehead and temples, is particularly characteristic of women\'s fashionduring the first decade of the 19th century. The coiffure is further embellished with a smallornament highlighted in gold, which stands out beautifully against the dark hair. She alsowears a delicate drop earring.
The portrait is finely executed throughout, with particular attention to the eyes, complexion,hair and the exceptionally delicate treatment of the dress and its transparent sleeves.
