Portrait of a Lady, Half-Length, Wearing a Blue and Red Dress, in a Landscape
A charming 18th/19th-century portrait of a lady, depicted half-length and seated against a softly painted landscape background. She wears an elegant blue and red dress with decorative detailing and a white lace-trimmed sleeve.
The work is presented in a decorative oval giltwood frame and is painted in oil on panel.
The reverse bears a later handwritten inscription, which appears to read:
“Cln. Earl March / Duchess Malbrough [sic] / B-Rf..”
The inscription is offered as a later provenance/identifying inscription only and is not independently verified.

Condition
The painting is in antique condition, with age-related surface wear, craquelure and signs of age consistent with an old panel painting. The frame also shows areas of age, wear and losses to the decoration. Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
