This beautiful ancient Roman coin depicts Emperor Arcadius, who was Augustus and then ruled as Emperor from 395 AD until his death in 408 AD. This coin is a bronze composition and is over 1600 years old. The reverse of this coin depicts the emperor holding a globe and staff.
Arcadius was born in 377 in Hispania, the eldest son of Theodosius I and Aelia Flaccilla, and brother of Honorius. On 16 January 383, his father declared the five-year-old Arcadius an Augustus and co-ruler for the eastern half of the Empire. Ten years later a corresponding declaration made him Honorius Augustus of the western half.
