The April 4-6, 1971 Manhattan Center three-night run is one of the most notorious Dead engagements of the early era — promoter Howard Stein oversold the 2,000-capacity ballroom to approximately 5,000 people per night, advertising it as a "dance festival" with no seating. The resulting crush was so severe that Stein published a full-page apology in the Village Voice afterward. The April 4 setlist included Bertha, Me & My Uncle, Next Time You See Me, Morning Dew, Truckin', Hard to Handle, Deal, Sugar Magnolia, Casey Jones, and a Good Lovin' > Drums > Good Lovin' second-set centerpiece.
