First edition, first published in 1923 by Thornton Butterworth Limited, London. The Journal of the Hon. Henry Edward Fox (Afterwards Fourth and Last Lord Holland), 1818–1830, edited by the Earl of Ilchester. 384 pages with portrait illustrations. Fox’s journal records twelve years of British and European political, diplomatic, literary, and social life during the post-Napoleonic period. The surviving journals were preserved among the Holland House manuscripts and later edited for publication by the Earl of Ilchester. Original dark blue cloth hardcover with gilt spine lettering and decoration. Binding remains solid and pages are secure. No writing or other markings found. Portrait illustrations are present. Moderate foxing, particularly at the preliminary pages, and scattered foxing throughout. The principal defect is visible moisture staining/discoloration along portions of the lower edges and corners of the cloth boards. Minor age-related wear at the extremities. No dust jacket.
