Steps:

  • Prepare the Garment: Make sure the garment is clean, dry, and wrinkle-free. Lay it on a flat, heat-safe surface like an ironing board.

  • Preheat the Iron: Set your iron to the "Cotton" or highest safe setting for your fabric (usually around $350^\\circ\\text{F}$ or $177^\\circ\\text{C}$). Turn the steam setting OFF and empty the water reservoir.

  • Pre-iron the Area: Thoroughly iron the area of the garment where the patch will be placed to warm up the fabric and remove moisture.

  • Position the Patch: Place the patch in the desired location on the garment with the embroidered/decorated side facing up and the adhesive side flat against the fabric.

  • Apply Heat (Front): Place your thin pressing cloth over the patch. Press the hot iron down firmly (do not move the iron around initially, as this can shift the patch) for 30 to 60 seconds to fuse the adhesive to the fabric.

  • Flip and Iron (Back): Carefully turn the garment inside out. Iron the backside of the patch area for another 30 seconds with firm pressure.

  • Cool and Check: Allow the patch and garment to cool completely for several minutes. Once cool, gently test the edges of the patch to make sure it is firmly secured. If any edges lift, repeat the ironing process.

Important Tips:

  • Fabric Type: Iron-on patches work best on cotton and cotton/polyester blends. Do not use them on fabrics that cannot withstand high heat, like nylon, rayon, leather, velvet, or vinyl, as they may melt or scorch.

  • Longevity: For the most permanent application, it is recommended to sew around the edges of the patch after ironing, especially for items that will be washed frequently or subjected to wear and tear.

  • Washing: When washing the garment, turn it inside out and use a cold or gentle cycle. Air-dry or use the lowest heat setting on your dryer to help the patch last longer.
