Issued on 7 November 1936, the stamp depicts the imposing Grand Staircase inside the Imperial Diet Building, specifically the ceremonial staircase associated with the Imperial Family. The building itself had been under construction since 1920 and was finally completed in November 1936 after nearly seventeen years of work.
