Issued on 7 November 1936, this stamp formed part of a four-value commemorative set celebrating the completion of Japan\'s long-awaited new parliamentary building. Construction at Nagatachō had begun in 1920 and the building completed in 1936 is still used today as Japan\'s National Diet Building.
The detailed design depicts the building\'s Grand Staircase reserved for members of the Imperial Family, rather than simply a generic interior view. The 3-sen and 6-sen denominations used the staircase design, while other values depicted the exterior.
This example is particularly appealing for its violet cancellation, which contrasts strongly against the carmine stamp. The surviving strike is not complete enough for me to confidently identify the post office or describe it as a special commemorative cancellation, so I would keep the listing conservative and simply advertise it as a violet cancel.
