Antique Japanese Edo Period Samurai Tanto Sword – Rare Museum Quality, Dragon Engraving, Silver & Gold Inlays
Beautiful antique Japanese Edo Period samurai tanto sword with finely decorated red lacquer saya and tsuka, featuring impressed craftsmanship and intricate silver and gold inlays.
The saya is finished in red lacquer with impressed decorations and features a silver kojiri with a silver-inlaid himatoshi The tanto includes silver kogai and kozuka with an iron handle decorated with a silver mon. Matching family crest (mon) designs, made of gilded copper, are mounted as menuki on the tsuka.
The iron tsuba features silver inlay on one side and gold inlay on the other. The habaki is made of silver. The fuchi and kashira on the tsuka are crafted from horn.
The good polished blade features a beautifully engraved dragon on both sides and is in good condition, with no chips or rust. The iron tsuba is inlayed with gold and length: 9 1/2\"
