An exceptional vintage Japanese silk Fukuro Obi featuring an elaborate embroidered pine tree composition on a refined pale ground.
The design immediately evokes the sculptural beauty of Japanese bonsai art. A magnificent old pine rises through the composition, its sweeping branches formed with richly textured embroidery in multiple shades of deep green, soft green and ivory.
The trunk and branches are embroidered in warm golden-brown tones, while delicate white and pale pink blossoms appear among the pine branches, creating a graceful contrast with the strong form of the tree.
What makes this obi particularly striking is the dimensional quality of the embroidery. Viewed closely, the individual stitched details create depth and texture throughout the foliage, giving the pine an almost sculptural presence.
