Provenance: carries the original Cody's Books (Berkeley, CA) "Autographed Copy" sticker on the front of the dust jacket. Cody's was a legendary independent Berkeley bookstore known for its author readings and signings until it closed in 2008. A fitting connection, since Didion graduated from UC Berkeley.
Where I Was From is Didion's reckoning with California, her home state, blending memoir, history, and criticism to examine the myths of pioneer self-reliance and the state's dependence on railroads, aerospace, and government. The author photo on the back panel is by her daughter, Quintana Roo Dunne.
