Large Vintage St Anne Teaching Virgin Mary 52\" Catholic Church Religious Statue For Sale

Large vintage Catholic religious statue depicting Saint Anne teaching the young Virgin Mary. Saint Anne stands protectively beside Mary as they study an open book together, a traditional devotional image representing Anne\'s role as the mother and teacher of the Virgin Mary.

This is an impressive large-scale piece measuring approximately 52\" tall. The base measures approximately 20–21\" wide x 12\" deep. Its size gives it substantially more presence than the smaller household devotional statues commonly encountered and makes it especially well suited for a church, chapel, Catholic school, convent, shrine, prayer room, religious collection, or dramatic ecclesiastical display.

The statue is beautifully modeled with long flowing garments and considerable dimensional detail. Anne wears a white veil over a lavender gown with a dark brown mantle, while the young Mary is dressed in pink and white. Gold-painted borders accent the garments. The open book between them creates a particularly recognizable representation of St. Anne teaching the Virgin Mary.

This is an older piece and shows considerable age and use. There is scattered paint loss, chipping, surface wear, soiling, scratches and areas of crazing/cracking to the painted finish.

The open book and hands show noticeable chips and losses, and there are additional chips around the garments and green base. I have photographed these areas closely so the condition can be evaluated. Despite the wear, the faces remain especially attractive and the statue retains a wonderful presence when displayed.

The combination of its unusually large size, soft period coloring and traditional Saint Anne and Mary subject gives this piece the character of an older church or institutional devotional figure rather than a small household figurine. The age-related wear has become part of its history, and it remains a striking religious object ready to continue that history in a new setting.
