Late Qing Chinese Carved Rosewood Stand Rose Marble and Ornate Imperial Foo Dogs For Sale

Offered is this very fine antique Chinese hand-carved plant stand constructed from solid rosewood (Hongmu) which dates from Late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic period. The barrel or drum-shaped silhouette features a carved edge along the upper rim inset rose marble top. The openwork (pierced) apron is intricately carved. The reticulate apron carvings have 4 oval panels each featuring a symbolic foo dog motifs surrounded by detailed plum blossoms and branches. The foo dogs are beautifully rendered with alert facial expressions, and much detail of paws, tails and rich fur. The top features a deeply inset 10\" diameter circle of rose marble in very good condition with no cracks or deep scratches. The 4 cabriole shaped carved legs end in a detailed animal hoof. The height of the table is 18 inches, the width varies from 12\" at the top to 14\" inches in the widest part of the carved pierced apron woodwork and about 13\" across the base of the curved legs. The condition as described above ranges from very good to fair. Overall the table presents very well and is stable. The shape perfectly showcases the wonderful foo dog carved panels. The carving and marble top and pierced apron with foo dog panels are all very fine. However, the wood has expanded along some of the joins where apron carved sections meet the legs. One of the legs has small split about 1.5 inches long. There is some superficial discoloration to the finish in the area of one of the legs. The price strikes a balance between some of the (fairly minor and fixable) condition issues and the exceptionally graceful design and elaborate wood carvings.
