Lot of 4 vintage Whitman Publishing Company \"Authorized Edition\" hardcovers from the 1940s, each based on a popular newspaper comic strip, movie star, or WWII homefront theme:
- April Kane and the Dragon Lady (1942) — based on Milton Caniff\'s Terry and the Pirates comic strip
- John Payne and the Menace at Hawk\'s Nest (1943) — one of only three male-led titles in Whitman\'s \"Movie Star\" Authorized Editions series (the rest starred actresses like Shirley Temple, Judy Garland, and Betty Grable), making this a scarcer entry for series collectors
- Boots and the Mystery of the Unlucky Vase — based on Edgar Martin\'s Boots and Her Buddies comic strip
- Norma Kent of the WACs (1943) — part of Whitman\'s \"Fighters for Freedom Series,\" a WWII homefront-themed adventure
These small-format illustrated hardcovers were hugely popular with young readers in the 1940s and are actively collected today, especially the movie-star and comic-strip tie-in titles.
Condition: NO DUST JACKETS on any of the four books. Please review all photos closely, as condition varies by title:
